What good news have you shared with somebody else recently? Perhaps you ate at a new restaurant and raved to your friends about how good is was. Perhaps you found a great bargain and couldn’t wait to share the news with your family. Maybe a new child or grandchild (or great grandchild) was born and you eagerly shared the news with everybody you met.
As followers of Jesus, we have experienced incredibly good news in our lives! We have experienced grace and forgiveness, the love of other church members, the hope that comes from knowing Jesus and knowing that he walks with us in good times and in bad times, and the joy of praising God together in worship. Unfortunately, we usually keep these realities and experiences to ourselves.
Paul writes in his letter to followers of Christ in Rome: For “Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.” But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!” (Romans 10:13-15 NLT)
How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!
I want to have “beautiful feet”! I want to be a bearer of good news to people I meet — neighbors, friends, acquaintances. And I believe each of us individually, and together as the whole church, should be messengers of good news.
That’s why we are making an intentional effort this spring, summer and fall to reach out to our church neighbors. We will do a variety of activities to meet people around us and find ways to bless them. We will have an Easter Egg Hunt on Sat. April 4 in Memorial Park. We will hold a worship service in the park some time during the summer. We will hold Vacation Bible School types of programs for children in the park. We will build new friendships so that we can share hope and joy and the love of Christ — Good News! — with them. Some may come to join us in worship…but the real goal is that they may know God’s grace and peace by meeting Jesus through us!
Will you join us and have beautiful feet too? Pastor Jon
